MONROVIA - In a significant boost to their music programs, Monrovia High School (MHS) and Clifton Middle School have received grants from the Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts (PSHA) with the help of their Band Boosters. These grants signify a commitment to nurturing musical talent and enriching the community through arts education. MHS has been awarded $10,000, which will be utilized for coaching and learning opportunities across various ensembles.
"Honestly, it's a major relief," said MHS Band Director Jake Ferntheil. "Securing this grant brings about some peace of mind when it comes to funding our endeavors. We are putting this towards coaching and making sure every student gets time with instructors so they can be the best they can be!"
Meanwhile, Clifton Middle School will benefit from $5,000 earmarked for the purchase of new uniforms, which will facilitate increased participation in upcoming events.
"This year, our band marched in three parades: the Holiday Parade, Monrovia Days and Calmia Festival," said Clifton Music Director Tim Weed. "We are thrilled to be able to include more students in our marching band with the help of these new uniforms!"
These funds serve as a testament to the Band Boosters' commitment to their students' musical journey. Year after year, they tirelessly pursue avenues for funding, organize fundraisers, and rally community support to ensure students have access to the resources they need to thrive.
"Our goal is to secure funding to ensure the sustainability and excellence of our music programs," said Lisa Reyes, Vice President of Ways and Means with the MHS Band Boosters. "At Monrovia High School, we take pride in our Instrumental Music Program, which features six student-performing ensembles, each contributing to the rich musical tapestry of our school. These ensembles include: The Marching Wildcats, Symphonic Band, Color Guard, Drum Line, Jazz Ensemble and Chamber Strings Orchestra."
"Once again, the diligence and commitment of our Grant Officer, Gina Peck-Sobolewski, have paid off," said Jayson Young, President of the Clifton Music Boosters. "I'm extremely proud of the involvement of Clifton parents in our Booster program. I would also like to thank the PSCH Gift and Grant Chair, Lisa Loeffler, and the President, Suzanne Hart."
